The Ultimate Guide to 2022 Bowman Draft Baseball: Full Analysis and Rankings

Another year, another draft in the books. The 2022 edition of Bowman Draft is out and once again my review is below. As you can see when it comes to pitchers there is no point to buy right now as they are high risk. Maybe keep an eye on some of the names you like. A big development in recent drafts is the selection of college players over high school players. While these players may be more polished, they are older and it’s really hard to say if there is a ton of upside. I try not to write college guys off. Aaron Judge went to college, and we see how that went. I hope this helps. If you disagree on anything leave a comment. Thanks to all readers.

Alex Freeland - Los Angeles Dodgers SS - I could not find much on Freeland but he had a solid college career and is in a good org. Worth a look.

Dalton Rushing - Los Angeles Dodgers C - Catcher with limited at bats but the small sample size is impressive. I'm just not a catcher investor though.

Nick Biddison - Los Angeles Dodgers OF -  A little older for my taste but solid. At 22 how much upside is there?

Sean McLain - Los Angeles Dodgers SS - Similar profile to Freeland.

Anthony Hall - New York Yankees OF - Has not played a ton of pro ball but his college numbers are nice.

Drew Thorpe - New York Yankees RHP - Wait and see here.

Alex McFarlane - Philadelphia Phillies P - Wait and see for all pitchers.

Gabriel Rincones - Philadelphia Phillies OF - From the UK and has power. Interesting prospect.

Ivan Melendez - Arizona Diamondbacks 1B - Small sample size in A ball but I like what I see here.

Landon Sims - Arizona Diamondbacks P - Wait and see. Coming back from injury.

Nazier Mule - Chicago Cubs P - Power arm.

Cade Horton - Chicago Cubs P - Pitcher that is a high draft pick. Always high risk.

Christopher Paciolla - Chicago Cubs Utility - A player that has my interest. Seems to have good power and speed. Time will tell but everything I read is good.

Brandon Birdsell - Chicago Cubs P - Wait and see.

Brandon Barriera - Toronto Blue Jays P - Wait and see.

Cade Doughty - Toronto Blue Jays 2B - Solid numbers in A ball. Showed some pop.

Josh Kasevich - Toronto Blue Jays SS - Similar profile to Cade.

Tucker Toman - Toronto Blue Jays 3B - Too small of a sample size to analyze but hes a power bat.

Blake Burkhalter - Atlanta Braves P - Wait and see.

Cole Phillips - Atlanta Braves P - Wait and see.

Ignacio Alvarez - Atlanta Braves 3B - Seems to have a nice bat based off what I read but I dont see much out there. I would understand if you bought. He's 19 in a good system.

Owen Murphy - Atlanta Braves P - Wait and see.

Brenner Cox - Washington Nationals OF - 18 years old and is a developmental talent.

Tanner Schobel - Minnesota Twins 2B - Not bad numbers but no pop. Need to see more in that area.

Cutter Coffey - Boston Red Sox Utility - Development pick but could be a nice player. Lot of upside.

Mikey Romero - Boston Red Sox SS - Another solid player with upside. Can he tap into his power?

Chase Meidroth - Boston Red Sox 2B - Nice prospect but its a pass for me.

Chase DeLauter - Cleveland Guardians OF - Finally a power hitter in Cleveland. I am interested because they can develop hitters.

Dylan DeLucia - Cleveland Guardians P - Wait and see.

Jud Fabian - Baltimore Orioles OF - Not a bad player but too old for me.

Douglas Hodo III - Baltimore Orioles OF - Pass.

Dylan Beavers - Baltimore Orioles OF - Not a bad prospect. I would buy him before Jud.

Silas Ardoin - Baltimore Orioles C - Pass.

Cole Young - Seattle Mariners SS - Pass.

Walter Ford - Seattle Mariners P - Wait and see.

    1. Thanks for reading Makersmark. I love this question. I really like Zach Neto. Far as a younger guy Sal Stewart. I'll probably will have a follow up post about this.

    2. Good picks I like Chase Delauter, he has natural talent but I wonder if he can have the MLB work ethic. If so he could be a Stud!

    3. I think he can. He did go to a small school but he has really good plate discipline. Seems like a good kid. Him being in Cleveland's system makes me feel better about buying in.

  2. Thanks for your writeup! Always look forward to it. Curious why the pass on Cayden Wallace? Age?

    1. Love the question. Thanks for reading. Yeah age was a big factor for me. He does have some power though. I can see why you like him. If he can hit the breaking stuff better and move quickly there might be something there. I may have to revisit this one.

  3. Do you buy only base autos or do you try to get specific colors? Who do you think are the best 5 buys for any prospect that hasn’t made majors just yet? (E.g. could be from this year or recent years)

    1. I prefer the base auto and the refractor auto. Sometimes blue/150 or gold/50. No shimmer or wave. Straight color. Far as best buys. I still like Evan Carter, Soderstrom, Gunnar Henderson. Four and five I would need to think about.

  4. Why pass on Sterlin Thompson? First rounder and a good college bat.

    1. Great question. Thanks for reading. He can hit I just am not sure about the power potential at the moment. I acknowledge that I may need to revisit. I doubt the Rockies will do any swing changes. You hope he can add strength but its tough to project right now.
