Cleveland Indians 2B Tyler Freeman - Breakout Prospect Canidate

It is rare for me to talk about second baseman but the minors are loaded with talent at this position and Tyler Freeman is a kid I have my eye on. Freeman is a doubles machine and I am making the bet that he will hit for a little more power in 2019. Cleveland has always been good with developing hitters (See Daniel Johnson). The number one reason I have Freeman as a candidate is he always makes good contact and rarely strikes out. I will admit he is a gamble to buy because the power may not come but a player who hit 29 doubles, 4 triples and 2 homers in 2018 is worth the risk right?

Bargain Bin - Cleveland Indians Will Benson & Yu-Cheng Chang

As we head into the offseason there are many bargain bin candidates that I will present to the readers to invest in. The first two are Will Benson and Yu-Cheng Chang. Both are considered to be projects but I have confidence that each player will make the adjustments to cut down on strikeouts in pro ball. The power potential for both players makes you excited and the Indians do a great job with developing players. Auto's are less than 10 bucks. I would definitely consider grabbing a few and holding.

MLB Prospect Alerts & Updates

As we approach the All Star break, I would like to provide some updates and thoughts on various events happening in the minor leagues. As always feel free to send me a message on the blog or on twitter if you have any questions.

New York Yankees - Dustin Fowler - Back in 2016 I recommended you invest in Fowler. If you bought at that time you are in good shape. Prices have doubled. You hope he would increase his walk rate in the future but the talent is legit.

Oakland Athletics - A.J. Puk - A.J. Puk is now a STRONG BUY. Scouts were initially skeptical but Puk has delivered. He is the lefty that Oakland needs.

Cleveland Indians - Will Benson - I will be watching Will Benson closely as short season begins. Can he cut down on the strikeouts?

Boston Red Sox - Jay Groome - If you like Groome, I strongly suggest investing now. He was a steal in the draft due to character issues but the arm is front end.

Colorado Rockies - Brendan Rodgers - I am aware that Rodgers is on fire right now but there is one issue... He plays in Colorado. If he were to ever be traded I would buy immediately. He's that good.

Short Season Leagues - Keep an eye on all short season & rookie ball leagues. Performance will be a key factor when 2017 Draft is released in September. (Obvious I know)

Triston McKenzie - Cleveland Indians RHP - Strong Buy

Before I release my full breakdown of 2017 Bowman, I think it is crucial to mention Triston McKenzie as a pitching prospect to invest in. On May 10, 2017 he struck out 14 batters over 6 shutout innings. His wiry frame reminds me of CJ Edwards, a past favorite of the site. What makes me excited about this kid is that I think he will not move to the bullpen and has the stuff to be a No 2 starter. I rarely recommend pitchers but the talent and upside is too good to overlook. A base auto is selling for $15 and refactors are going for $30. I rate McKenzie as a STRONG BUY.

Indians OF's Bradley Zimmer & Clint Frazier Promoted to AAA

I recently read the exciting news that Clint Frazier and Bradley Zimmer were both promoted to Triple A. I was surprised that Zimmer was promoted but with Cleveland making a playoff push I understand why the decision was made. On a previous post I recommended that prospectors HOLD Bradley Zimmer's auto's due to him not showing an advanced hitting approach. Zimmer hit .324 the last 10 games and raised his overall average to .253 before being promoted. His auto's can be purchased for $20-$30 on Ebay. I expect his prices to spike immediately if he gets off to a hot start. With these promotions Zimmer and Frazier are now a STRONG BUY. Frazier is on the high end so that is why I am focusing more on Zimmer. There is a strong chance you will see both in the Majors soon.

Clint Frazier Scouting Report (New York Yankees, OF)

Clint Frazier

Profile:

Position: Outfield
Bats: Right, Throws: Right
Height: 6' 1", Weight: 190 lb.
Draft: Drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 1st round (5th) of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft from Loganville HS.
Born: 9/6/1994

Scouting Report:

Grades: Hit: 50. Power: 65. Speed: 55. Defense: 50. Arm: 55.
2016 Stats (AA): .295/.387/.485, 7 HR, 33 RBI, 43 Runs, 227 AB

Clint Frazier is a former Baseball America High School player of the year and is putting together a nice season at AA Akron. He is currently one of the youngest players at the level and some say there is a chance you might see him in the big leagues this season. Clint has impressive power and bat speed that you can't teach and will play in games. He also possesses an above average arm fit for center field or right field.

What I like about Clint is that he has made adjustments to his swing and approach and has cut down on his strikeouts. There is still work to be done but the Cleveland Indians have a good track record of developing professional hitters in their system. Clint has the tools to become a dynamic outfielder in the MLB and I expect him to be a big asset to the club. Frazier and Bradley Zimmer in the same outfield could be something special in the years to come in Cleveland.
