prices are down across the board, and I thought it would be a good idea to see
how some top prospects are selling. Let's take a look at 2020 and 2021
products. I will focus on 2022 in a few weeks as 2022 Bowman Draft is still
fresh. Winter was always a good time to buy historically as there was no
activity and collectors were focusing on other sports. I am using recent
auctions on Ebay for analysis. I will be mostly look at base, but I also have
looked at PSA 10s and other sales.
2020 Bowman Draft Baseball
Note - This draft class is pretty good overall compared to recent
classes.
Heston Kjerstad -
Baltimore Orioles OF - Selling for around $75. Had a huge Arizona Fall
League.
Jordan Walker - St.
Louis Cardinals 3B - Walker is such a stud that I could not find any sales.
Everyone is holding.
Ed Howard - Chicago
Cubs SS - Prices have crashed as he has struggled. People overpaid and are
scared to sell so they are holding. Still time though to get better.
Austin Hendrick -
Cincinnati Reds OF - Similar to Howard. No one is really selling as they
overpaid.
Zac Veen - Colorado
Rockies OF - I'm seeing base go for about $100 maybe less at a show.
Tyler Soderstrom -
Oakland Athletics C - I've seen about $75 for Tyler sometimes lower. He's a
stud.
Pete Crow-Armstrong -
New York Mets OF - Now with the Cubs and prices are up as he had a really good
season. I'm seeing refractors go for $200. Not much base out there.
Evan Carter - Texas
Rangers OF - Base is going for $100 and refractors are double.
Nick Gonzales -
Pittsburgh Pirates SS - Not a ton of base out there. Prices seem low to me.
Watch out for future auctions.
Nick Yorke - Boston
Red Sox 2B - Big time price correction here. His cards were hot then he started
to struggle. Combine that with a slowing market and you got a card that has
lost a ton of value.
Robert Hassell -
San Diego Padres OF - Base is going for around $100.
2020 Bowman Chrome Baseball
Luisangel Acuña -
Texas Rangers 2B/SS - Another correction. In that $50-$75 range.
Logan O'Hoppe -
Philadelphia Phillies - Now on the Angels. Around $40.
Francisco Alvarez -
New York Mets C - Base is high. Well over $100. Being a Met helps.
2020 Bowman Baseball
Anthony Volpe - New
York Yankees SS – Prices are high. Very high.
Brennen Davis -
Chicago Cubs OF – Top org prospect that is selling for about $40.
Jasson Dominguez -
New York Yankees OF – Oh man. Prices have crashed for this guy. His PSA 10 base
auto is selling for about the same price as Volpe. I would rather buy Volpe
right now.
Bobby Witt Jr. -
Kansas City Royals SS – PSA 10 base is around $1000.
2021 Bowman Draft Baseball
Jay
Allen - Cincinnati Reds OF - The base that I did see was around
$25-30. That's a great price if you like him as a prospect.
Christian
Encarnacion-Strand - Minnesota Twins 3B - Seen low as $30 but
high as $50. Maybe people are not convinced.
Jordan Lawlar -
Arizona Diamondbacks SS - Around $250 I'm seeing. I cant be mad at that
price.
Marcelo Mayer -
Boston Red Sox SS - In that $200 range. I think I am higher on Lawlar.
2021 Bowman Chrome Baseball
Carlos
Colmenarez - SS (Rays) - Prices are around $30. Good time
to buy before the season. Do you research though.
Cristian Hernandez -
SS (Cubs) – Prices around $100. Cubs effect.
2021 Bowman Baseball
Johan
Rojas - Philadelphia Phillies OF
– I've see $20-30. I think that is very fair.
Hedbert
Perez - Milwaukee Brewers OF –
I've seen $15-20. These were going for $100 at one point.
Yoelqui Cespedes - Chicago White Sox OF - See above.
Another year, another draft in
the books. The 2022 edition of Bowman Draft is out and once again my review is
below. As you can see when it comes to pitchers there is no point to buy right
now as they are high risk. Maybe keep an eye on some of the names you like. A
big development in recent drafts is the selection of college players over high
school players. While these players may be more polished, they are older and it’s
really hard to say if there is a ton of upside. I try not to write college guys
off. Aaron Judge went to college, and we see how that went. I hope this helps.
If you disagree on anything leave a comment. Thanks to all readers.
Alex
Freeland - Los Angeles Dodgers SS - I could not find much on Freeland
but he had a solid college career and is in a good org. Worth a look.
Dalton
Rushing - Los Angeles Dodgers C - Catcher with limited at bats but the
small sample size is impressive. I'm just not a catcher investor though.
Nick
Biddison - Los Angeles Dodgers OF - A little older for my taste
but solid. At 22 how much upside is there?
Sean
McLain - Los Angeles Dodgers SS - Similar profile to Freeland.

Cade
Doughty - Toronto Blue Jays 2B - Solid numbers in A ball. Showed some

but hes a power bat.
Blake
Burkhalter - Atlanta Braves P - Wait and see.
Cole
Phillips - Atlanta Braves P - Wait and see.

Alvarez - Atlanta Braves 3B - Seems to have a nice bat based off what
I read but I dont see much out there. I would understand if you bought. He's 19
in a good system.

but could be a quick flip and fast mover.
Owen
Murphy - Atlanta Braves P - Wait and see.

Baldwin - Atlanta Braves C - Its a pass for me.
Brenner
Cox - Washington Nationals OF - 18 years old and is a developmental

a long way to go far as development.

but hes solid. The bat is good.
Tanner
Schobel - Minnesota Twins 2B - Not bad numbers but no pop. Need to see
more in that area.
Cutter
Coffey - Boston Red Sox Utility - Development pick but could be a nice
player. Lot of upside.
Mikey
Romero - Boston Red Sox SS - Another solid player with upside. Can he
tap into his power?
Chase
Meidroth - Boston Red Sox 2B - Nice prospect but its a pass for
me.
Chase
DeLauter - Cleveland Guardians OF - Finally a power hitter in

Jud
Fabian - Baltimore Orioles OF - Not a bad player but too old for
me.

good. The price will be high so take your shots in group breaks. He has talent
and could move fast.
Douglas
Hodo III - Baltimore Orioles OF - Pass.

Beavers - Baltimore Orioles OF - Not a bad prospect. I would buy him
before Jud.
Silas

Almost three years has past since the 2019 Bowman products have been released. Looking back at the checklists and articles was fun. Overall this year in Bowman history was not as strong as other years. Most of these prospects are still on my watch list or I passed on. Most of the top prospects were high priced upon released so I did not really recommend to buy.
I do this after three years to hold myself accountable. Links to the original articles are below. Its a good feeling to know that my instincts were sharp around this time as all card prices were starting to rise and it was very difficult to take big swings. If you miss on a prospect you want it to be on a mid to low tier player that is not priced too high. That is very hard to do these days as prices have never been higher.

2019 Bowman Baseball
Blaze Alexander - Arizona Diamondbacks 2B - I would lean towards a miss here. Has made progress but if I had to go back I would pass.
Brewer Hicklen - Kansas City Royals OF - Another miss here.
Cal Mitchell - Pittsburgh Pirates OF - Showed flashes in the minors but I think its a miss.
Cristian Santana - Los Angeles Dodgers 1B/3B - Too old. Miss.
Elehuris Montero - St. Louis Cardinals 3B - I would say this one is a hit here. Money could of been made here.
Esteury Ruiz - San Diego Padres 2B - Promising prospect but still developing. Miss.
Julio Rodriguez - Seattle Mariners OF - Obvious hit.
Marco Luciano - San Francisco Giants - Did not make a recommendation at the time. Big time prospect now.
Ronny Mauricio - New York Mets SS - See Marco above.
Tirso Ornelas - San Diego Padres OF - Miss here.
2019 Bowman Chrome Baseball
Shervyen Newton - New York Mets SS - More of a gamble bargain bin choice. So not really a hit or miss.
Owen Miller - San Diego Padres 2B - Fooled again buy a Padres prospect. Miss.
Mike Siani - Cincinnati Reds OF - Hit I guess. Cards are still under $10.
Noelvi Marte - Seattle Mariners SS - Hit.
Orelvis Martinez - Toronto Blue Jays 3B/SS - Hit
2019 Bowman Draft Baseball
Brett Baty - New York Mets 3B - Hit. Money could of been made here.
Its still early in the Arizona Fall League but I took a look at the early numbers for hitters and here is what I see. Please note that its still early but good performance in the Fall League is always a good sign for your favorite prospects.
Heston Kjerstad - 1.064 OPS - Impressive sign. Maybe he's figuring things out.
Nick Yorke - 7 XBH - Nick struggled this year but is off to a good start. I could see a bounce back year next year.
Zac Veen/Johan Rojas - 13 steals each. Both have good bats so this just adds to their value.
Jordan Walker - His exit velocities are some the highest in the fall league.
Hello Everyone! I've been busy with other things but I just wanted to let everyone know the site is not dead. A ton of new Bowman is coming out in the next months and I still have some data to crunch. Plus the Fall League is active! Lookout for new posts soon!
Not too much I can say but the Brewers have found something special with Jackson Chourio. He is already a top five prospect in baseball and is only 18. We have not seen something like this since Soto began his career ripping through the minors. His auto prices will be insane and I cant wait until he signs. Lets hope Bowman Chrome will have his autos in a few months. I don't see any signs of him slowing down at all. I'm so excited I had to write about it.
Another player that has my attention but does not have a Bowman Auto yet is Ceddanne Rafaela. The numbers in High A were impressive and he is holding his own in AA. The walk rate could be better and he swings at a lot of strikes but he rising up the prospect lists for the Red Sox. Hopefully he signs for Bowman Chrome later in the year.
