Scouting Report:

Alex Jackson, the sixth overall pick last year and the best high school hitting prospect in the draft, could be a star one day and his 2014 Bowman Chrome Draft autograph prices reflect that.

“Everyone is really excited about him,” general manager Jack Zduriencik said. “We think he’s a legit hitter. When we took him, we thought that was the case. When we watched him, he has a presence about him as a player. When he got out in the organization and we watched him compete, it was exciting to see."

Seattle is taking the former catcher and turning him into an outfielder, where he could wind up becoming very similar to Wil Myers and Bryce Harper.  He has 30 HR potential and a bat that can easily rake for a .270 clip.

He missed a month last year after getting hit in the face with a line drive, but we caught a glimpse of some potential.  He's pricey, but the upside is certainly there.

Verdict:  If you can afford him...  Buy them here.

Scouting Report:

He's a little older than some of the other Bowman Draft studs which reflects in his pricing, but there's nothing wrong with that.

Zimmer is a lefty bat that can lay down a bunt or put one over the fences.  He also has a rifle of an arm in center field.  He didn't buckle under the pressure and got 8 hits in last year's final 6 postseason games.

This quote from Zimmer gives me confidence in his make-up as well:  "One thing that I would like to change is [to have] a better approach at the plate at all times," he said. "When I’m behind in the count, make sure I stand my approach and stop swinging at balls."

Before the draft, scouts worried that his swing was not suited for power and did not provide enough loft, thus making him a liability as a future corner outfielder, but his 20 XBH in 179 AB are good enough for me in a debut.

Verdict:  STRONG BUY on $15 base autos and $25 refractor autos.  Buy them here.

Scouting Report:

This kid is an athlete with elite tools across the board, as well as plus tools as a left handed pitcher before being drafted as an outfielder.  Verdugo exhibited his two-way ability by winning the MVP in the 2013 Under Armour All-American game, where he pitched a scoreless inning and had a double.

Scouts wonder if he has enough speed to stick in center field, but he did exhibit speed and/or instincts on the basepaths last year in his debut when he stole 11 bases without getting caught.

His bat and hand eye coordination are off the charts (.353 - 20 BB - 18 K), but again there are doubts among scouts (they always like to doubt) whether he can fill out his 6'0" 200 lb frame any more, for more power.  That said, he can hit the ball to all fields...

Dodgers VP of amateur scouting comped Verdugo to Joc Pederson in their abilities to shoot the gaps left and right.  If he continues to rake and lives up to that Joc comparison, look out.

Verdict:  STRONG BUY on $20-25 base autos.  Buy them here.

#Reds Trade Ben Lively (RHP) To #Phillies For Marlon Byrd

In an ironic twist of fate, Lively was my most recent prospect highlighted (click here for the article), and shortly thereafter was moved in a surprise trade with the Phillies for Marlon Byrd two days ago.

I loved Ben Lively as a Cincinnati Red and I think I like him even more now in Philadelphia.  First off, a new market, and one as strong as the Phillies, is always good for a prospect as there is a new constituency for demand (any prospecting Phillies fan).

Lively dominated in the CAL league last year, which I already mentioned previously and how impressive that was, and took a small step back after a AA promotion to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.  The owner of the Blue Wahoos, Quint Studer, said of Lively, "I really think he has a great shot to be with the Phillies and pitching in the major leagues next summer."

I agree with that sentiment and will continue to buy Lively autos before they start to spike.
