Trade Deadline Thoughts Regarding Prospects

For the most part, we want our held prospects to get traded.  A traded prospect enters a new market, and every collector in that market will now demand that prospect's chrome autos.  I'd say the exceptions to this trend are prospects in the New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles franchises, where the fan bases are very loyal.  Players traded away from these teams tend to decline in price.  Players traded to these teams tend to spike.  So as long as a prospect isn't traded away from a big market team, it's probably going to be a good short term spike for our holding in the respective prospect.

For me, rumors mean nothing in this age of technology because there is a rumor for everything.  You need confirmation of a trade.

The best resource is Twitter for trade news.  If your guy gets traded, it might be a good time to sell to the thousands of new collectors of that prospect.

By the way prospectors, how funny was the Phillies trade offer: Cole Hamels for Corey Seager, Joc Pederson, and Urias?  Um... no thanks.

  1. The Phillies trade was amusing and insulting at the same time. Great post.
