  • Oblique strain - 68.2 IP last year
  • upper 90s fastball, developing slider, control issues (95 K / 39 BB)
  • 3rd best FIP among Top 100 Prospects
  • "The big thing for him this season is to build up his innings and simply get experience facing advanced hitters after having the oblique problem last year," said Giants vice president and assistant general manager Bobby Evans.

Breakout prospect: Kendry Flores, RHP
Kendry Flores Ebay Listings (no chrome auto yet)
  • 137 K / 17 BB in 141.2 IP
  • High 80s/Low 90s fastball, curve, solid changeup
  • Fly ball pitcher
  • "We'll have to decide where he goes to start the year -- whether it's San Jose or Double-A," said Evans. "He has excellent command, and while he doesn't blow guys away, he's been very effective pitching to contact and going deep into games. He had limited exposure to big league camp, but we're very pleased with his progress, which is why he went on the 40-man roster last fall."

At the crossroads: Gary Brown, OF
Gary Brown Ebay Listings
  • 1st rd pick (24th overall) in 2010
  • Breakout 2011 season -  .336/.407/.519 with 14 homers and 53 stolen bases
  •  "The primary target for him is getting on base so he can use his speed," said Evans. "He can't have balls in the air and can't give away outs -- he needs to hit line drives. He's still got the tools, has good bat speed and has been receptive to making adjustments. Obviously we want to stay healthy at the big league level, but Brown definitely has callup potential if we have injuries."

#WhiteSox @MiLB Breakout Prospect Tim Anderson - Get his Bowman Chrome Autos here - http://goo.gl/Ni1Y8p

Shining star: Micah Johnson, 2B
  • 9th rd pick in 2012
  • "He has a chance to be one of those impact-type players because of the way he runs," said Capra. "The way he does things on the field -- he does a lot of good things, he's going to be exciting, the way he uses his legs."
  • "He's quick and he's fast -- he's exciting to watch," Capra said. "Any time people see that amount of stolen bases, they get excited. But it's hard to say -- he has a chance for at least 80 [steals]. It's tough to put a number on it. Things change at the big league level -- you have more information and the running game is dealt with a bit differently."
"I'm not the kind of guy who's going to hit a lot of home runs, so I needed to learn to use my speed better if I wanted to get to the big leagues."-- Micah Johnson

Breakout prospect: Tim Anderson, SS

  • Shortstop - 1st round pick in 2013
  • .277 - 24 SB last year
  • "He's coming in to play shortstop at Winston-Salem, and from the day we signed him, he's made tremendous improvements," Capra said. "Defensively, offensively, he's a real smart kid. He runs the bases well, he's very a intelligent ballplayer, he has good baseball instincts."

Major League-ready: Marcus Semien, SS

  • MLB debut 9/4/13 - played 21 games
  • .284-19HR-66RBI-24SB in two levels of minors last year
  • "He can play short, second, third and offensively he drives the ball to the alleys, he has some pop, he can steal a base," Capra said, "He has a chance to be a pretty good big league ballplayer."

  • "Jairo has a unique tool set. He profiles as a Major League right fielder -- he's 6-foot-6, he can throw and he runs well for a big man. He has the ability to hit and he has some power in his bat. We've worked with him in center and left field, but his final position could be decided by opportunity because we have other corner outfield bats in the organization with Nomar Mazara and Lewis Brinson and Nick Williams." -- Rangers director of player development Mike Daly

Jorge Alfaro Ebay Listings
  • 20 Years Old
  • Athleticism, raw power and arm
  • Deceptively efficient on the basepaths
  • "When you look at players like Yadier Molina and Buster Posey, guys on World Series teams, the catcher is a premium position. When you look at championship-caliber catchers, they really help their team offensively and defensively; they're good two-way players. I don't want to put a limit on what [Alfaro's] ceiling is, because right now our only focus is on him being the best he can be." -- Rangers director of player development Mike Daly
