AL Central - White Sox, Indians, Tigers, Twins, Royals - Prospect BC Auto Analysis - BUY HOLD SELL

Miguel Sano 2010 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autograph Twins
Future All-Star, but are his chrome autographs a good investment?

The AL Central has only 6 Bowman Chrome prospect autographs that I ranked as a BUY, but the Twins have some good ones.  I'm starting to realize how strict I am when it comes to investing in prospects, which brings up an important lesson:  NEVER regret a decision NOT to buy.  Only regret the decisions to BUY when they lost money for you.  Like they said in Rounders, "You can't lose what you don't throw into the pot."

---- I like this kid, but he needs some pop to get real demand in this hobby.  He could be a good play if you want to gamble that he does something on the world stage in the playoffs.  But that's just another form of placing a prop bet, for the gamblers out there.

--- I know, blasphemy!!!  Sell Chris Sale?!?!  But seriously, he's a stud.  Everyone knows it.  So what can possibly happen to make his autos increase in price?  Nothing, because everyone knows how good he is.  It's hard to wrap your mind around it if you're a beginner, but just think of it in terms of supply and demand.  Supply is now constant for Sale's auto.  We need demand to increase for him to rise in price.  There really isn't anything (likely) to happen to increase demand.  He would have to win a Cy Young Award and throw shutouts in the World Series.  It's not happening on the current White Sox team.

  1. I agree with most of what I've seen on here...but why would you recommend selling on Bonifacio when his base go for 5-7$ and he has potential to reach the majors at age 21? The Royals had him in mind when they dealt Myers after all...

    1. Not sure he can develop the necessary pop. I find it hard to believe an elite prospect like Myers could be considered expendable because of a guy like Bonifacio. His potential is highly debated: I've seen scouts give him a future power tool rating as low as 45 and as high as 65. Just seems like a gamble to me. Once he shows he can develop some pop, then he'd shoot up my rankings, and his prices will probably still be cheap enough to buy. So until then, he just doesn't excite me. At least we can see some more out of him in the Arizona Fall League.

  2. How about Daniel Fields of the tigers? I think he is a strong buy but I'd like some feedback.

    1. I've gone back and forth on Fields. Frustration from buying and selling him makes this a HOLD/SELL for me RIGHT NOW. He is a raw, toolsy kind of prospect who can still put it all together,. He's not a bad gamble. I wouldn't deter anyone from taking a chance on him at his current prices. He's shown much improvement this year, esp. in the second half. If he can continue this next year, his prices won't move too much so I won't "miss the boat", and I can simply just start buying again. So my true rating of him would be: "WATCH", which is probably more of a Hold than a Sell. Good luck though! Great question.

  3. Cheslor Cuthbert - Why a sell? He's young, and when his Auto sells for around $4 or less shipped, seems like it'd be a hold, based on potential, his cards can't really go down any lower

    1. Just doesn't impress me. Lack of power will make it very hard to profit, even if his autos are $4. So many more prospects I'd like to focus on.
