Bargain Bin - Jarred Cosart

Bargain Bin - Cheap Prospects with Upside

The first post of a new column, I hope to highlight lower priced Bowman Chrome Autos of prospects who seem to be better than their pricing dictates.  To start it off...

Card: 2011 Bowman Chrome Autograph
Cost: A couple bucks
Why: Once a top prospect, Cosart is again proving why he has the potential to be an ace.  His heater hits the high 90s, and his curve is a plus offering.  This year, he has had the enormously difficult task of pitching in AAA's PCL, one of the least forgiving leagues for opposing pitchers, but Cosart has looked very sharp (5-2, 2.65 ERA, 57 K, 54 IP).  His major weakness is control (29 BB in 54 IP).  If he can get that in check, look out.

  1. Great idea for a column. Cosart is an interesting prospect. BA is under the impression he may be slated to be a closer in the majors, but he appears to have the stamina to be a starter. His K rate is also higher in AAA this year than it has been the last few years. Given Houston's system, I see him coming up pretty soon, but there's no need to rush him.
